Excess heat from energy-intensive industries is often suitable for use in district heating systems but is usually unutilized. A detailed overview of the potentials available in the EU is now provided by a database of the sEEnergies project. In Germany, 29 petajoules of excess heat from industrial sites could be used, which corresponds to the demand of more than half a million households. The information is available as maps and downloadable datasets.

In the project, charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will be installed at 38 Fraunhofer institutes. Fraunhofer ISI evaluates effects of the infrastructure build-up.
The project
LamA - Charging at Work aims at improving air quality in cities by
installing charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. It is part of the Clean
Air 2017 - 2020 Program launched by the German Federal Ministry for
Economic Affairs and Energy.
Using the
models FORECAST, eLOAD and FlexGOLD, Fraunhofer ISI analyses the market
diffusion of electric vehicles in Germany, the resulting regional effects on
GHG emissions and effects on the energy system. This is done taking into
account the load management of electric vehicles and other regional
flexibilities.
In
addition, the development of the perception and acceptance of electric mobility
in the local surroundings of charging infrastructure is investigated with a
focus on employees and residents.
